James Hill's first artistic achievements were manifested at an early age through sculpture, sketching and other visual arts. He discovered his passion for music during his third year of high school and began playing guitar and piano shortly after in 2007. Since moving to Toronto in 2009 to study piano, James has performed at many of the major jazz venues in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal—as well as Atina, Italy, and New Delhi, India. In 2012 James' achievements were recognized, and he was awarded the Hnatyshyn Foundations' Oscar Peterson Grant for Jazz Performance by jury members Renee Rosnes, Paul Tynan, and Andrew Craig who wrote about James' rapid development, "To have made this kind of progress in such a short time is nothing short of remarkable." James is currently working on his second studio album with his band Autobahn entitled Of The Tree which is to be released in June 2016.James is constantly focusing on formulating a future for himself, in which he can continue to progress as a musician, and expand his artist voice and image—all by the support of his interminable passion for music and creativity. James has a Bachelor of Music degree and an Introduction to Commercial Jazz certificate from Humber College.
