ALEX PURCELL, MA (CAND.), B.MUS
Alex brings his developed performance experience, RCM qualifications, and warm personality to contemporary music lessons. He was trained at a young age by the Royal Conservatory of Music on the guitar and piano. Alex started playing piano when he was six years old. Throughout his youth he worked diligently at the RCM examinations, eventually graduating with his Grade 8 RCM piano certificate with honours. He excelled through examinations and recital performances at an advanced level and participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival competitions. Alex comes from a background of live performance, and currently plays throughout the GTA in groups as eclectic as jazz-fusion, and avant garde rock’n roll.
He graduated with honours from the Humber College Program in Jazz Performance, and has been an active teacher in the GTA for five years on piano and guitar. Alex is a MA candidate at York University for music. He performs weekly in Toronto with his two bands, one of which is signed to the Agency Group label. Alex is also a composer for independent film, and was recognized last year by Socan’s foundation award for ‘Young Audio-Visual Composers. Alex teaches guitar, piano, and ukulele lessons at Neighbour Note.

Alex is very flexible in his lesson plans so that the student can have a program that is matched to their individual personality and passions.
